A dark poem is meant to redeem the dark part.

I don't think of reflection on dark things as necessarily dark.

Sometimes you have a poem that you really want to write and it never happens.

Poems have a different music from ordinary language, and every poem has a different kind of music of necessity, and that's, in a way, the hardest thing about writing poetry is waiting for that music, and sometimes you never know if it's going to come.

I wanted to come out here and make a point and kind of redeem myself. I set the tone early. Having our shooters go out there and shooting 3s kind of opened up the middle for me.

With a ring around the rosary
And a pocket full of crosses
Ashes to ashes
They'll all fall down
