After that, I don't know what happened ... 'cause I blanked out, and when I woke up, I was on the ground, and there was a lot of debris around me, ... There were people trying to rescue us out of the area.

I was a little kid, 10 or 12, ... I remember exactly ... transistor radios had just happened. When transistor radios happened, that was huge. And everybody had this little thing. And I was on a bus — I had been to the skating rink in Flushing [Queens, New York], near where I lived. And we were on the bus, and some kid had a transistor radio and it came over the radio. When 'Giant' came out, he was already gone. Yeah, that was a very big deal.

I kind of blanked out. I couldn't believe it was over.

When I woke up at about 6 a.m., it was gone, ... It was beached on a neighbor's beach. I'm glad it came in instead of going out.

When the father woke up it had already started.

When I woke up late I knew I wasn't starting.
