After the ignominious collapse of the Copenhagen global climate change summit in 2009, Bolivia organised a People's Summit with 35,000 participants from 140 countries - not just representatives of governments, but also civil society and activists.

There is oppression that shouldn't exist. There is a struggle for freedom all the time. There are very serious dangers: the species may be heading toward extinction. I can't see how anybody can fail to have an interest in trying to help people become more engaged in thinking about these problems and doing something about them.

The measurements show long-term trends. Glaciers react to climate change, and warmer temperatures in the Alps are reflected in the results.

If we let climate change run its course, this could be a fairly typical winter 30 or 40 years from now.

We're vulnerable to begin with, and climate change exacerbates the vulnerability.
