All 24 of these young men and women have reputations for intelligence, thoughtfulness, and the ability to work effectively across party lines, ... The common denominator is that they are among the young officials most likely to achieve even higher positions of public responsibility in the years ahead. They truly represent America's next generation of political leaders.

Intelligence is the ability to avoid doing work, yet getting the work done

I don't relate to machismo ... If anything, it's about letting go of the definitions we've had of men and women, and that women are somehow weaker. Not in the experiences I've had with women in my life: I don't find my mother to be weak, and my wife is certainly not weak. As far as men being domineering and physical and violent, my father is not. My brothers aren't. I hope I'm not.

Our duty, as men and women, is to proceed as if limits to our ability did not exist. We are collaborators in creation.

If we had 100 men and women willing to mentor, we could put them all to work at Carver. We could put them to work at every school, but Carver probably has a higher percentage of need.

If women are expected to do the same work as men, we must teach them the same things.
