All of us agreed there was nothing we could do except say yes. This was something we needed to do for our fellow citizens of the United States and certainly just our fellow man.

They wouldn't leave, they knew the job needed to be done and they were going to stay until it was finished. And that's exactly what you hope your fellow man would do for you,

Nothing can be as astounding as life. Except for writing. Yes, of course, except for writing, the sole consolation.

Except a living man there is nothing more wonderful than a book! A message from the dead - from human souls we never saw, who lived, perhaps, thousands of miles away. And yet these, in those little sheets of paper, speak to us, arouse us, terrify us, comfort us, open their hearts to us as brothers.

Did I feel we needed it? No more than normal, that part of it. Did I want it? Yes. All the things that were talked about and any number of things this season, I joked about it, but it was true. I'm human just like anyone else.
