American history is longer, larger, more various, more beautiful, and more terrible than anything anyone has ever said about it.

Black history is American history.

Americans don't learn about the world; they don't study world history, other than American history in a very one-sided fashion, and they don't study geography.

I am what time, circumstance, history, have made of me, certainly, but I am also, much more than that. So are we all.

I don't want a Black History Month. Black history is American history.

No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now.
