Apparently, they just got hold of a vehicle and had been using it.

We missed them by about 30 minutes this morning.

We're going back and interviewing family members to see if there's been any contact.

If you walk into an auto lot and a vehicle is 20 years old and has only 50,000 miles, that should set some alarms off. The old saying about the little old lady who drove only to church on Sundays, well, there aren't too many of those. If a deal seems just too good to be true, it probably is.
