As a matter of fact, even when I finished law school, I had no notion of public service then.

For me, public service is an honor, and I have the ultimate respect for the rule of law.

Disinterested public service has become, just so... what's the phrase, 'old school.'

The UNC Law School has a long tradition of a commitment to both academic excellence and public service, which I find very appealing. Although I'm very happy teaching at William & Mary, I'm also pleased to be a candidate in the UNC search.

I went downtown as a lawyer and then I worked in a liquor store at night, as I had done all through law school. And so when I got to the point where I could give up the night job, I joined the political club.

I have a lifelong devotion to public service.
