As soon as he saw it, he wanted to do it. We took him out a week later, and he's been going ever since.

For our kids, it's a lot. For new racers coming in, it's relatively inexpensive to get started. At the level our kids are at, they probably each have about $4,000 worth of equipment. There's bikes, protective gear, uniforms, that kind of stuff. Then we also have a trailer and a lot of tools and stuff.

A lot of free items they get from their sponsors, lots of discounted items. And they get a lot of coaching and a big pit area at the races. Basically, [the team provides] anything they need for the bikes or tips for what to do next on the course.

As far as I'm concerned, there are two types of people in this world: people like Queeg who, when life gives them lemons make lemonade, and everyone else. And although those smug lemonade-makers think the rest of us just sit around all day day bitching about not getting oranges, they're wrong. It's all about volume. When you're ass-deep in lemons, you start looking for a shovel, not a pitcher and a cup of sugar

Because they feel that without them telling you to do this, you wouldn't have had the characters that you have, you wouldn't have the book that you have.
