Awareness is the biggest defense against prejudice. I want them to learn to be open-minded and accepting.

Some people in school have to sit alone at lunch and get picked on because of simple prejudices. And a lot of New Orleans students were not well received. Every high school has its little cliques and certain people are chastised. It's similar to the Jewish Holocaust. People are picked on whether they're Hindu or Arab. Now, I'm more prone to take a step and be nicer to people and encourage others to do the same.

This is a larger effort within the Defense Department for language studies and cultural awareness. There's a lot more emphasis. It started with the global war on terror. Our need for Arabic was greater than our capability.

The most moving scene for me in 'Pride and Prejudice' is the Pemberley music room scene: Elizabeth has just saved Darcy's sister from embarrassment and confusion, and as the music plays on, Darcy's look of gratitude becomes a look of love, which we see reciprocated in Elizabeth's eyes.
