Because it is the first time, some of our people have not fully understood the democratic value and implementation of this referendum.

We sincerely ask the Beijing authorities across the Strait to view the election result from a positive perspective, to accept the democratic decision of the Taiwanese people.

In the 1999 resolution regarding Taiwan's future passed by the Democratic Progressive Party, it is stated very clearly that any change to the status quo of Taiwan must be decided by the people of Taiwan through referenda.

The Republic of China is a sovereign state, a constructive member of the international community and a lively democratic society, ... Taiwan's admission to the U.N. will be conducive to peace, prosperity and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

It is not only a new era for Taiwan's democracy, it is a new era for solidarity and harmony, and a new era for peace across the Taiwan Strait.

At the same time, we want to again appeal to the mainland to understand how firm the Taiwanese people's will is in wanting democracy and peace.
