Certainly we gained a lot of yards, but fumbles and penalties, those two things just drive coaches crazy,

Some we brought on ourselves. Three times we had enough yards for a first down, and we had penalties that knocked us back, so that we were facing either first-and-20 or second-and-20. The environment we were in - a real good football team, and a team that can pressure the quarterback - we were playing into their hands.

Having those fumbles in the last game was shocking, ... This isn't something the coaches are ignoring. Coach Mac was really going at it.

It is really nice to see that we won't have any penalties. All of our coaches understand the importance of this. It is part of their job description now to meet these academic progress numbers.

Seriously, I'd like to see them make it 20 yards shorter so more guys would try [to drive it]. My philosophy there is, if I feel like I can get too close to the green with a driver, I don't hit it.

One of our assistant coaches, Lou Holtz, had a bet that Keyes would not get 25 yards. We skunked 'em.
