Democracy is a whole package of institutional course for arriving at political decisions. It encompasses the spirited artistry of exercising compromise, negotiation, and, indeed, cooperation. If it comes to merely counting votes, it is just a body without soul.  

Democracy never guarantees the best to be elected. Democracy, as it is designed and when it is functional, supposedly guarantees stopping the worst from doing evils.

One can argue whether democracy has always committed to and resulted in safeguarding liberty and equality. Rest assured that there would be no safeguard for liberty or equality when democratic proceedings become operatives of money.

In a democracy, we expect the government to be tight-fit, transparent outfit that sticks to the body of the assembly of the people, not a thick-covered body that has a mind of its own.

If this was a proper functioning democracy this government would have been kicked out long ago,

The mental and physical reactions to what are perceived as labor and leisure are distinctively different, though at leisure labor is often involved. Some people are able to maintain a happier balance between labor and leisure, not because they have a world of free time, but because they effectively expanded what is in leisure.
