Despite the state of denial exhibited by most Democrats, Americans all across the nation acknowledge that changes are necessary to preserve Social Security for today's younger workers.

We can preserve Social Security benefits for generations of Americans without privatizing this important program.

Social Security was intended to be a guarantee to American workers: it will be there, and it will be there for everyone. We have kept that promise for 70 years, and we can continue to do so if we take time once again to make thoughtful, bipartisan adjustments to the system. It is a pact worth keeping.

I don't know of any bills we have. My pension and Social Security aren't huge, but between them we do nicely. We don't require a whole lot.

So there is a bookkeeping way to say that I am not using the Social Security cash flow, but the overall effect on the taxpayer and the economy is the same. The government is borrowing additional net money.
