Doctors and parents could be able to identify children with this potentially fatal infection at an earlier stage and before they get very unwell.

If children are picked up (diagnosed) earlier in the course of their illness they should do better because they will be referred to hospital more quickly.

Many parents were told by doctors that their children had problems because of something that happened during pregnancy or delivery, or their child had a high fever. If they find out it is genetic or a birth defect, they have this catharsis of guilt they've carried around for so long.

Parents always think it's the kids' fault. If they're naughty, it's the kids' fault. Not true! Children generally are not naughty for no reason.

Young children continue to swallow medications, or doses of medications, that were not intended for them. Parents should be vigilant, whether it's storing their own medications, or other medications, or properly administering medications to children.

Parents themselves are eating badly. Their own behaviors translate into bad outcomes for their children.
