Dr. King stood for nonviolence and not judging people by their skin and he was someone I looked up to. But I consider my mother to be my role model. She's a very hard worker.

It was a groundbreaking trend on my part. I think this will give people a sense of hope, especially my students.

We have some (African-American educators and leaders), but not enough. I know we're trying to add more certified minority teachers in our district. We're trying to get our own kids to go out, get their education, and come back here (to teach).

Black history is celebrated only one month (in February) and then that's it, it's over. It should be celebrated the whole year. Great things from African-American leaders in our county take place all the time.

Nonviolence is not a garment to be put on and off at will. Its seat is in the heart, and it must be an inseparable part of our being.

We may never be strong enough to be entirely nonviolent in thought, word and deed. But we must keep nonviolence as our goal and make strong progress towards it.
