Each player is rated on points and most ratings are based on games that last two or three hours. The average chess player is rated between 1400 and 1500; a master player is rated well over 2200. If your rate is going up, you're playing better chess.

We peaked at about 20 members. Nowadays, a lot of people play online. But there's always people dropping in to play each week. And we get a lot of children come in during the summer. Our members instruct them on how to play.

Jay Griffin taught a chess class and he decided to form the club. We met at Mother of Sorrows church for several years before moving to the First Presbyterian Church on Laird Road.

We're hoping I'll be back in one of the next two games, ... To be honest I haven't really done anything 100 percent yet except for diving around a little bit today. But I've been given the green light to try everything including kicking the ball, which in the past has been a bit of a problem in recovery.

These kind of games are good because it's a tune up for the playoffs. As far as our chances in the playoffs, I think we'll go deep. We have just as good of a chance as anybody else.

This was huge. We knew we had to win both these games. After we started 0-4, we just came out and practiced harder and we pulled together.
