Epidemic obesity is unquestionably a health crisis in the United States, and for that matter, in much of the world. But it is a crisis in slow motion, one that has crept up on us over years, and even decades.

Obesity is arguably the gravest public health threat in the United States today.

There are far more satisfying explanations for epidemic obesity. We have more calories available per capita per day than ever before in history. And more and more of those calories are packaged in highly processed, flavor-enhanced, processed foods.

People who say obesity has been hyped are wrong.

In 1992, we were spending about $2,400 per year per person in the United States on health care. In Poland they were able to spend $60 per person per year.
