Even after I was done (coaching), when Michigan City was merging (Elston and Rogers) into one high school, my preference was to stay in the NIC.

I always enjoyed writing. I did playlets in high school, I did radio shows in college. That's one of the reasons I went down to Second City, because you could do acting and writing.

(Michigan) has had one of the best programs around. We've had some competitive meets with them. A couple times we swam better, but their diving beat us.

When I was coaching, the kids wanted to leave private schools for the public schools so they could get the best coaching, play the best competition. It's not that way anymore.

Saturday was disheartening because I felt like our guys didn't believe at the end of the game [against Michigan]. One good thing is, we're not worried about who we're playing. It's tough going to Illinois. But I think we showed at Iowa that if we can get ourselves together, we can play.

It was so competitive -- top to bottom. Playing an NIC game on Friday night made it tough to come back against someone else Saturday.
