Even today there is need for conversion to God, to the God of love so that the world is freed from wars and from terrorism.

If you follow the will of God, you know that in spite of all the terrible things that happen to you, you will never lose a final refuge. You know that the foundation of the world is love, so that even when no human being can or will help you, you may go on, trusting in the One that loves you.

If in my life I fail completely to heed others, solely out of a desire to be 'devout' and to perform my 'religious duties', then my relationship with God will also grow arid. It becomes merely 'proper', but loveless.

Today, the Lord puts us on guard against the self-reliance that puts a limit on his limitless love. He invites us to imitate his humility.

We can be sure our beloved pope is standing today at the window of the father's house, that he sees us and blesses us.

Today, I, too, wish to reaffirm that I intend to continue on the path toward improved relations and friendship with the Jewish people, following the decisive lead given by John Paul II.
