Everyone has someone they looked up to. Mine was Mickey Mantle. For Alex Rodriguez to idolize me coming up, that makes me feel very good.

To write a book about Mickey Mantle and not to show people who he really was doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. So I decided the only way to do this is call it a novel and plow full-speed ahead as to what my interpretation and my estimation of who he was and what was troubling him. This is a very complicated book. It’s hardly just about sex.

Carrying the what? What's the mantle. Like the mantle on the fireplace? Or Mickey Mantle? ... Well, obviously, we want to get it done. We've dedicated ourselves to the city of Houston and this organization.

I stand by those statements. I think this is a man's game and I feel very strongly about it. And if anybody thinks when I made that comment about women being in the kitchen, and takes it seriously, well, get a sense of humor.
