Federal elections happen every two years in this country. Presidential elections every four years. And four years just isn't long enough to dismantle all the environmental laws we've got in this country.

He has steered his country through a most difficult and painful transition ... We now look forward to the presidential elections when the Russian people will decide on Boris Yeltsin's successor and take a further step towards embedding the democratic process.

They have been successfully used for many, many years in hundreds of elections all over the country. I don't think they understand or quite appreciate the atmosphere they operate in.

There is no elections scheduled in the country soon and the opposition is weak, so the president may easily initiate some liberal steps and reforms.
