Finding meaning in what you do is one of the most important dimensions of resilience. People who own their own businesses, more than others, are able to find meaning in what they do.

In 1942, Ted Williams' draft status was 1A, meaning he was going to be among the first people to go to war. Williams stated that he would enlist after the 1942 season was completed and he ended up missing five seasons between (his combined service in) World War II and (later in) the Korean War. If he hadn't missed that much time away from the game, who knows how many home runs he could have hit?

When you go through them, you find out the true meaning of people. It's easy when things are going good. It's very easy. You can walk around laughing,

When you see people happy and content with so little after they've lost so much, who can still find meaning and purpose, it makes our lives seem shallow sometimes. The children especially were always smiling. It was heartwarming to see; it gives you a whole new perspective.

There's no satisfactory way of closing the book on this. I think people are well meaning when they say they're going to move on. But I don't think it's realistic.
