Following Katrina, we went over to Lafayette to help. They were keeping animals at Blackham Coliseum. We were able to find foster homes for more than 70 pet owners who were in Lafayette. All of those animals eventually went back to their original owners.

Someone has to speak for the animals. We try to fix as many as we can and educate as many people as possible about spaying and neutering. We try to stimulate people's hearts, get them to open up to these animals in need. They give you a lot of joy back if you take one in.

We went out with our humane traps and caught nine the first night. We get them fixed — spayed or neutered — make sure they get all the shots they need and try to get them adopted.

I'm glad it turned out the way it did. Everybody got help and the animals were put back with their owners. Every animal I saw was in good condition.

We're out here like pure animals. We don't have help.
