For athletes who have been recruited to a Division I school, we know their skill level is in the upper percentiles. The difference between one athlete in the 98th percentile and another in the 97th percentile is primarily mental.

We feel Florida provides enough skill athletes. There are a lot of quality linemen in Texas.

[Independent surveys estimate 1.5%-2% of Florida's high school athletes might be using steroids.] But against a student base of 215,000 athletes, it's kind of scary to think that possibly 4,000 are at risk out there, ... We don't want to see any youngster's life at risk.

Spearfish has never been a 'tall' school. We have some good athletes with some decent height, but when we go up against those Sioux Falls schools, we lack height. If we can't be tall we have to be quick.

We?re the best conditioned athletes in our conference, not just our school.
