Some are young people who don't know who they are, what they can be or even want to be. They are afraid, but they don't know of what. They are angry, but they don't know at whom. They are rejected and they don't know why. All they want is to be somebody.

I realized what a special actor he was, so I proposed to Life magazine to do a visual biography on Dean, who exemplified the kind of actors who were starting to become popular back then.

I did not know anything about his history as an actor in New York. He was a total stranger to me. He was very low-key.

It was the picture that I buried for so many years, but interestingly enough, that picture now is used more often. Because he makes himself look like [he's] suffering.

It was pretty easy to work with Dean in Indiana. He was relaxed enough there. Besides, we both found we had the same sense of humor and we deepened the friendship.
