For years, no one talked about it. That's something you never wanted to talk about again, certainly not laugh about it.

People must be confident that a judge's decisions are determined by the law and only the law. He must be faithful to the Constitution and statutes passed by Congress. Fidelity to the Constitution and the law has been the cornerstone of my life and the hallmark of the kind of judge I have tried to be.

No matter what resentments we may have from the past, we have to be able to wash each other's feet. That frees the person doing the washing.

In an age of instant gratification and superficial solutions to grave social ills, this cannot be emphasized enough.
