Francis asked if we could bring up our medical brigade in January of 2005.

We promised we'd return again.

She was disappointed, because she thought we'd brought food. That comment hit hard. It's really frustrating because we're trying to do the right thing, but we realize that medicine alone is not the answer. We can give them all the vitamins we want, we can give them all the pills we have, but if they're hungry, malnutrition, that supersedes just about everything.

We tried not to violate their culture, we tried not to take too many photos. We promised them we'd return. And we did, this year.

And we were swamped--the health issues, the malnutrition, the diseases were remarkable.

They are the poorest of the poor in the Western hemisphere.
