Get off your ass and get down here to fix the goddamn biggest disaster in the nation's history.

I was among the people in the Superdome. I knew what was going on every minute. I did not have air conditioning nor shower facilities. I made decisions based upon facts and not what I thought was going to happen. So history will judge me based upon those actions.

Hurricane Katrina is without question the worst natural disaster in American history,

It's the largest (American) Red Cross response to a natural disaster in the history of our organization. We know it's going to cost in the millions, because we've already sheltered about 160,000 people and we have over 650 (Red Cross) shelters open in 17 states. But we don't have final figures because we're in the midst of trying to respond to this disaster and meet the immediate needs.

This disaster was one of the most preventable disasters that we've seen in American history.

Hurricane Katrina was the largest disaster in U.S. history. It also occurred in a much-smaller state than Florida is.
