He loved people and it crushed him not to be a cop. He was a street cop through and through. He just loved people, interacting with them, helping them. It was hard for him not to. But he found other avenues.

In the short term, it creates a pinch.

One of her charges is to expand our current programs, examine what we've been doing that needs to be changed and also where we need to supplement our programs to assist victims in their long-term recovery.

You frequently hear that the Archdiocese is closing a school and that's not what the situation is. This is a very careful and thoughtful process. It takes months. There is great consultation. The bottom line is we have to determine what's going to be the best way to provide affordable quality Catholic education, not just next month but next year, five years from now, 10 years from now. We have a responsibility to do that.

The grand jury report was certainly very painful. It's important to point out, however, that long before the report was issued, the archdiocese had taken steps to strengthen all of our children and youth protection programs, and our assistance for victims.

We're always encouraging our schools to do anything they can to help families keep the costs down. We're always encouraging them to market themselves. It's a benefit.
