He wanted to work with them daily and make a difference, get them not only to learn to read, but to love it as well. His eyes would light up when children would recognize a word in a story and could finally read it.

So many of these children needed a 'Gramps,' someone who cared enough about them to teach them one on one about books.

All that is moot right now. His bloodied body was discarded like a bag of garbage in front of his own home, hardly a fitting end for a man who only wanted to bring the joy of reading to young minds.

They know they can win. But we know we have a lot to work on before Sept. 1.

Everybody's playing well. We will try the changes out again next week and see how they work then.

Nurses, physicians, counselors but there are probably needs for others. And at the moment the work that's going on is work identifying potential volunteers who would be available to go at very short notice potentially as early as this weekend.
