Historically, the product-transition periods have been very disruptive for Intel.

Intel is not going to just surrender the server market. We have seen that several times before. (AMD) starts executing, makes a lot of money and then, boom -- Intel reacts.

Historically, it's not like GM has always been a great company. It's had it's cyclical down periods. But you need to look at the import of GM, not as much a stock but as a barometer of the economy.

As I look at Intel's product lineup versus AMD, it's clear that Intel is weakest in servers and strongest in notebooks. So from that standpoint I can see why Intel would want to create an impression that says they are closing that gap.

The smaller companies are riding the coattails of the larger companies. Historically, if Intel did well, it spoke well for all the semiconductor stocks. This earnings season, there's a very high chance that the coattail effect is going to be broken.
