How many people make that? Not that many. People working in the hospitality industry and in our stores - they may make $9 or $10 an hour. Not that many of them make that kind of wage.

I probably get five calls a day from people who cannot find a place that they can afford to live ... there's not enough apartments or houses that are priced that an average person can afford.

Third, and probably the most critical factor, is the hospitality of the people of this region. They are the most welcoming people in NASCAR, which is mandated because we've only got 6,000 hotel rooms and we will have close to 200,000 people here. The police say there are 20,000 to 30,000 people camped or parked around here without tickets.

Here you have a couple, and it requires both of them to work to make ends meet. If you want to get a job in Myrtle Beach you can, but it may not pay enough to get an apartment or a house. It's discouraging, and that's the major problem.

It helps when somebody is holding them accountable and encouraging them. Some of them have been beaten down so badly that they don't think they can overcome.

We have the slowest job growth among the states. People . . . are getting the wrong signal about the hospitality and the environment and the business climate of Illinois.
