How prophetic L'Enfant was when he laid out Washington as a city that goes around in circles!

The outpouring of volunteers has been tremendous. I have a significant backlog of e-mails from across NAVFAC Washington and from personnel assigned to commands supported by us, ready to go and assist those in need.

Not taking anything away from Washington, that's a very good basketball team down there, (but) it looked like our guys thought they were coming out after the first three minutes.

[The FAA's controllers advise Defense officials about any looming intrusions into the Washington region's flight restriction zone, but NORAD officials have final authority to send up the F-16s.] We're in charge of restricting the airspace, ... but the military has control over protecting the airspace.

I just thank God that I'm out of Washington.
