I absolutely could not be prouder of my daughter. But, at the same time, I am not surprised. I have seen her play through injury and illness before. She is one of those kids that a coach hopes for.

She struggled. She started good, but then she put on these wool gloves and got a rash. Her hands turned raw. We had to tape her hands up for her to play.

Jake had some of the most powerful runs I've seen him do. Early, he wasn't hitting the hole and I pulled him aside. The next play, he made a huge run n the kid was challenged and answered it.

He talked about Jim Devine all the time ... and I knew Pat had such respect for him. In the back of my mind, I knew we were moving. I knew if Jim made him an offer, we'd take it. I thought this would be a big key to Pat's success.

It's probably better now than it was a long time ago. The cattle come off quicker in the fall than they used to. There are places where the grass is quite a bit better.

I want them to remember the feeling they had when they completed something--some for the first time in their life--not only completed it, but successfully completed it. It will help them the rest of their lives.
