I am an optimist about the UK. We have been involved in trade with our European partners, which we will always be doing whatever this relationship is. We are a member of the EU. That gives us benefits. But we have to figure out where that is going. In the world, we are a global trader already.

A good proportion of foreign nationals in jobs in the UK are in semi or low-skilled occupations.

Politics is a rough trade and I can take it with the best of them. I have demonstrated I am capable of taking the worst of blows, even when they are almost so ludicrous as to be bizarre, but I do draw the line at families. I always have. I try to keep my family out of my politics as much as possible.

I am not going to speculate about the emotions that might be involved in avian infidelity.

No matter where I am in the world, I will always be back home for Christmas.
