I appreciate these types of races. The appeal I had in that race will be the same in a statewide race in Illinois.

In this particular race, I think it was certainly the deciding factor.

Historically for anything below governor, you're looking at spending $300,000 (for the primary and general election) at the low end and $1 million at the high end. The fact he has put over twice the high-end amount just in the primary, that shows a lot where campaigns are headed.

He had not been on TV. He went out and saturated the airwaves. He went up to 31 percent and I went up to 18 percent.

There was one area of the state he did not buy TV and that was Metro East. Where we went head-to-head in the absence of TV ads, we won 2-1.
