I can't figure out what they were thinking. It's an insult to everyone who is stuck in traffic on the 405 every day. We should play this as a loop on our traffic station three times a day to let drivers know why there is no relief coming.

I don't think the city has done nearly enough for disasters --manmade or natural. In the wake of Katrina I want to take a look at our evacuations at our ability to transport the elderly and infirm ... at triage possibilities.

It looks like the new owners have really put some effort into everything. So far, they seem like they're really working to correct the sins of the past.

This is a step in the right direction because a number of us have been urging Washington for years to distribute funds on a risk and threat basis, and not on a pork barrel basis. At the same time, I'm always concerned when Washington wants us to create new bureaucracies to cope with the paperwork.

Uncle Sam is going to ride to the rescue. That's the message to every city as a result of Katrina.
