I consider my work successful if the viewer finds a need to return to a previously viewed painting because they might have missed something.

It's much more than painting. Actually (any) painting is much more of an embellishment.

I found the process of creating art the old-fashioned way to be boring and thoughtless. It was easy for me to recreate reality through drawing and paint. The challenge for me was to create images, which require the viewer to examine the work with determination and read it much like a poem.

It's very much random, almost like a slot machine for kids. It's the aspect of chance that I like.

I don't work from drawings. I don't make sketches and drawings and color sketches into a final painting.

While much of the work is made from the traditional media of painting, sculpture and photography, other work is very nontraditional — in particular those submissions by grad students in the sciences that were done as a part of professional development, such as photographs of spinal cords, reproductions of microscopic views or sculptural models of electrical coils.
