I don't think there's a single county agency that doesn't have something aimed at people who speak a language other than English. Each department has its own multilingual staff.

We got donations from citizens all over who would send a letter expressing their desire to help and a check or a couple dollars in an envelope.

We've had donations from a local law firm, a crime solvers' group in Wisconsin, a couple from Virginia and a businessman in California, giving from $100 to $50,000.

They too, knew this beautiful and harrowing landscape; they'd had the same experience of looking up from their books with fifth-century eyes and finding the world disconcertingly sluggish and alien, as if it were not their home.

It's probably the worst street in the city. Right now, we're working on some grant money to help fund this project.

The rate to us increased fairly significantly. It's still a competitive rate.
