I felt what I had to say musically could not be said in two minutes and thirty seconds, ... So I did my thing. If it was a hit, great. But I just did what I wanted creatively.

Thirty minutes is not a big number, really. And I think another way to look at it is probably every team in America has got a kid or two that averages 30, 32, 34 minutes. If one kid can do it, there's nothing wrong with four kids doing it. Our kids have handled it very, very well.

You'd have the calvary here in 60 to 90 seconds. Two minutes max.

I was a pop freak. I love music. Of course, I knew soul because I grew up in it. Writing it and everything. I love soul. But I love a tune that has some meat in it. Something I could hang my hat on. Because music is universal. Therefore, I felt no boundaries.
