I grew up in Hamburg, and that was like growing up in little Germany. We talked German at home. Our church services were in German every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month. Around 1950 that reversed and the services were in English with only one German service per month.

I believe having a home is important, especially as they're growing up. They need some space.

When Lawrence Phillips was in a boys home growing up, I truly believe he was on the right track, ... Nebraska derailed that. Osborne undid what that boys home did. There was no accountability for Lawrence Phillips, no discipline. Just a protective mechanism for him to conduct himself the way he did. Nebraska didn't care about Lawrence Phillips; they cared about their won-loss record.

You have some people who have cooked while growing up, but the vast majority didn't participate in cooking at home at all, and they see a need for that in their lives. There are things that traditionally have been handed down through mom teaching daughter, but we're losing a lot of that, so there's a new need to learn basic skills.
