I know how angry I was when I saw those towers come down, and this is my way of serving my country.

I was raised in bars. My grandmother had one, and when I was 12 years old I'd go stay with her and that's where I got to watch her band play-she had a seven- or eight-piece band, and I would sit in the kitchen and peek through the door. I was kind of a 12-year-old bottle washer.

When I first saw the picture of Emmett Till, I was 10. I couldn't believe that something so bad could happen. I was fortunate to see that photograph because it had a great impact on my life.

I was angry when I saw them start to do something to the flag, and I'm glad that I happened to be geographically close enough to do something about it.

It's like pulling teeth to get me to do photo shoots. And I don't mind doing interviews if they're by phone, but I hate to go sit down and have to meet somebody somewhere, you know what I mean.
