I love making the quilt tops and doing the machine piecing.

In the Amish country, the average price is between $1,000 and $1,500. Art quilts can go for much more than that, just like an artist's oil painting. Handmade quilts are more valuable than machine-made quilts. Some of them take six months to a year to make.

Occasionally, we'll get teenagers. Most are sewers. Some have mothers who sewed. The older people quilting now are doing it because they always wanted to quilt but never had the time.

Women who take classes together become friends, meet on the outside, go to quilt shows together.

I waited a decade to get here, so I better enjoy it! I love it. I'm a late bloomer, and it's just all good.
