I prefer not to use credit cards. So when I can use my debit card, they can take it out of my account immediately, ... That was happening.

The use of debit cards has become an accepted payment method, with two of three households owning a debit card.

They're pushing credit cards. They don't take Visa, but they do take American Express, or they don't take this one, but they take that one, or you'd better bring this one, or if you forget who you are, look on your credit card; it will be there.

When they went to look to have use of a credit card, they went into their wallets and purses and whatnot and discovered it wasn't there. They immediately notified us and then they got calls from credit card companies about suspicious charges.

People are not going to receive money, or a check or a debit card from here. We're not giving away clothes. We do have water to keep people hydrated, but the decisions on who gets what assistance is made at the national level.

This is a tremendous undertaking to try to get debit cards out with $2,000 on them to thousands of people. We've got plenty on hand, and we've got some more on order to make sure that everybody who is in the shelter down there that needs a card gets a card.
