I realized that I had screwed up my life living different parts of my life in different places. I wasn't whole. I wasn't integrated. I wasn't a complete person. And after that, came out, spent some time at a psychiatric hospital.

Different people in different parts of the world can be thinking the same thoughts at the same time. It's an obsession of mine: that different people in different places are thinking the same thing but for different reasons. I try to make films which connect people.

I grew up in different parts of Africa. I grew up in Mozambique and places like that. I've been in South Africa many times.

Inspiration comes from all different places.

It's not necessary, in order to be a complete person, that I have a man. It's not the end-all, be-all of my life.

I actually feel that the different kinds of stories come out of different parts of my brain.
