I saw right away that high-school wrestling was a lot more intense. The matches are longer and there is a lot more conditioning needed because you're going against wrestlers that are a lot more experienced. It took a little time to adjust to that.

I knew the coach and he got me into it. What I liked about wrestling is that it was an individual sport, but in the same time, what you did individually also helped the team out as a whole.

If I don't get a pin doing that, I will at least get back points for it. I like to start out on defense for a few seconds and get a feel of my opponent, and then I will go on the offensive and attack.

Due to the numbers we have everybody practicing together and look to have a city school wrestling club. It seems to have worked out with everybody having a great meet in Port Alberni.

Max is an anomaly in that this is only his second year wrestling in high school and he's improved by leaps and bounds. His learning curve has been very sharp, and he's become someone who we count on to win for us. He's a wrestler that not too many people know about, so we're hoping he will continue to surprise his opponents in the future.

It was another great high school wrestling match. If you can't get excited about what happened on Saturday and tonight, you can't get excited.
