I think it's spectacular. It means a whole lot to the entire community.

Our staff liked the themes in 'To Kill a Mockingbird' and felt it was most applicable to our community. It's set in a rural town during the Depression in Alabama, and we have a lot of rural towns here in Fresno County dealing with social inequalities.

This isn't about putting a couple of people in mascot suits or showing icons on the walls. It's about recreating the experience of the show in another environment.

There's definitely a world view among college students that appreciates the need to act in the international community.

We were visited by whites, who always found coming into the black community to be interesting. Some even found it exotic. They knew that some of our restaurants were superior to their own. One of the interesting things is that whites discriminated against blacks. Blacks never discriminated against whites, and so they were always welcome.

It is open to anyone in the community.
