I think we have a good chance of surviving long enough to colonize the solar system.

Not that chance dominated events in the early Solar System, for scientific determinism was also functioning. But chance is an essential factor in all evolutionary events, and the birth and development of our planetary system were not exceptions.

We're going to understand that there is life on other bodies in the solar system.

We think comets make up a huge amount of stuff out in the solar system. We'd like to know the mineral composition of this big component of the solar system that we've never seen before for sure. Various particles have been measured that have been inferred to be from comets, but nobody's sure. This would finally provide some ground truth.

It's time for the human race to enter the solar system.

Just think: in all the clean, beautiful reaches of the solar system, our planet alone is a blot; our planet alone has death.
