I was a big troublemaker in the group. I put them through a lot of pain, but as much as I gave to them, they gave right back to me.

Around New York, our group had become known as 'Dee Dee and her girls' because we were used on everything, so going out on a solo career wasn't as much a big deal to me.

The islands were very lush, green and verdant, which is unusual. It's like the ocean is the desert right now and the land is the garden. It's usually the other way around.

I look forward to a time, in the not so distant future, when we no longer look forward to 'firsts' as milestones women have yet to achieve, but we look back on them as historic events that continue to teach and inspire.

It's not so much that I ever declared: 'I will never have children.' I just never found the right man to settle down with, so it didn't happen.

We couldn't ask for anything better than to get these kids going on the right track to recycle and reuse, and what's more fun than making art.
